We enjoy eating and chatting at the open houses that we host the fourth Sunday of each month. And now we are offering an opportunity to watch a curated collection of QuakerSpeak videos with us. We invite you to come and enjoy breakfast, fellowship, videos and thought-provoking discussions.
You are welcome to arrive at 10 am (worship) or 11 am (videos, food and fellowship). We serve coffee and other morning beverages along with a light breakfast / brunch.
As always, we have many interests to share, and we would like to learn about you and your interests. This is a great opportunity to learn more about our community, meet new friends, and connect with others who may - or may not - share similar values and beliefs. There is no need to register. Simply join us.

Yes! We hosted another Death Cafe on February 12. Watch our website, our
social media sites (see icons on our home page), and local news media and
social networking sites for notice of a future one.
What is a Death Café? At a Death Café people gather to eat cake, drink tea, and discuss the taboo topic of death. The objective is “to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives”.
It is a group discussion of death with no agenda, objectives, or themes. There is no intention of leading people to any conclusion, product, or course of action. It is a discussion group rather than a grief support or counseling session.
This group will be moderated by Barbara Reynolds and Debra Dooley. Learn more at www.deathcafe.com or at
www.facebook.com/deathcafe

The 339 Manumissions and Beyond Project
Was presented on October 15, 2023, by our in-person guest Avis Wanda McClinton and her co-presenters (via Zoom) Dennis Gregg, David Satten-López, Kitty Mizuno.
To repair is to fix what was broken. The history of Quakers as slaveowners contains much
damage and breakage. The 339 Manumissions and Beyond Project is a Quaker-led reparative project. It seeks to restore the family histories of those descended from people enslaved by Quakers and answer the question: What happened to these newly freed Americans and how
did they survive?
"Know from whence you came. If you know whence you came,
there are absolutely no limitations to where you can go." James Baldwin
Visit the Barnegat Meeting's YouTube channel for the slide presentation and the video of the Zoom event.

Thank you, Bill and Marty Smith for presenting "Quaker Views of Jesus/Christ: Historic and Current" on Sunday, June 4.
Bill Smith presented the views of Jesus and Christ in the early Society of Friends, which contemporary “Christians” thought was heresy. Barclay and Penn later modified the view of Friends to be more in line with others. During the Quietist period, Friends emphasized peculiarities but were influenced by the Great Awakenings and Enlightenment. In the late 19th century, Friends were diverted into orthodox Christian and rationalist views of Jesus/Christ, which created the current formal grouping in North America.
Marty Smith talked about how Friends viewed Christ/Jesus from the mid-20th century up to the present. She included Evangelical Friends as well as Liberal Friends with emphasis on the views of individual Friends and communal Philadelphia Yearly Meeting.

A Community Coming Together: Barnegat Communities that Care
Thank you, Megan Tucker of RWJBarnabas Health for the informative presentation.
What is the Communities That Care? What benefits does it offer to Barnegat? How can you get involved? If you missed the event, come to the Meeting House for literature.
Since 2018 a grant funded model called Communities that Care (CTC) has been operating in Barnegat. Communities that Care is a national process that brings the community together to collaborate in reducing risks for youth. If risk factors are greater than protective factors, youth
are more likely to experience alcohol and drug abuse, antisocial behavior, violence, school failure, anxiety / depression and teen pregnancy.
CTC has become a very special group of passionate citizens and professionals who meet quarterly as well as sit on monthly workgroups. Megan Tucker, a Prevention Specialist at RWJBarnabas Health has worked with youth and families since 2005.
